What to Wear for Your Branding Photoshoot or Corporate Headshots
Rebecca Taylor - Founder and Lead photographer
โWhat should I wear for the photoshoot?โ
Itโs the most common question I get asked, and itโs no surprise why.
What you wear in your personal branding photos or corporate headshots isnโt just about looking good.
Itโs about alignment, with your message, your presence, your company brand, and how you want to lead.
The right outfit helps you show up with confidence and credibilityโbefore youโve even said a word.
After years of helping women and men step into their next level of visibility, Iโve pulled together key styling tips to help make outfit planning simple, intentional, and stress-free.
Whether your next shoot is solo or with your team, these tips will help you feel like yourself, just elevated.
Top Styling Tips for Personal Branding and Corporate Photoshoots
1. Stay True to Your Brand
Choose colours and silhouettes that reflect your brand personality. Whether thatโs bold and creative, polished and professional, or soft and grounded. If your brand is minimal and modern, stick to clean lines and neutrals. If itโs playful and warm, think colour pops and approachable textures.
2. Comfort is Confidence
If you feel restricted, it shows. Choose outfits you can move, sit, and breathe in. Youโll shine more naturally on camera when youโre not worrying about pulling or pinching fabric.
3. Bring a Variety of Looks
Aim for at least three outfit changes:
One classic and professional (think structured blazer or shirt)
One relaxed or lifestyle-inspired (soft knits, denim, or casual layers)
One expressive or elevated (colour, print, or statement accessory)
This gives you visual range and makes your gallery more versatile for different marketing needs.
4. Use Accessories with Intention
Accessories should enhance your presence, not distract from it. Simple earrings, layered necklaces, watches, or glasses can subtly communicate who you are. Stick with 1โ2 key pieces per look.

5. Choose Flattering Necklines
Not all necklines work equally well in portraits:
V-necks elongate the neck and open up the face.
Boat necks can be elegant and timeless.
Scoop or crew necks work well if balanced with a statement earring or necklace.
Turtlenecks can sometimes shorten the neck and look closed off and unapproachable.
6. Pay Attention to Fabric
Shiny fabrics like satin or silk can bring a touch of elegance to the overall look. Some checkered patterns can create distorted visual effects in photos.
Also, avoid fabrics that wrinkle easily, creases can look distracting on camera (however we can usually retouch them out!).
7. Structure is Your Friend
Structured pieces like blazers, tailored shirts, or dresses with defined seams give your body shape and presence in photos. They help you look polished and composed, even in relaxed poses.
Avoid shapeless garments or overly flowy styles unless balanced with tailored elements.
8. Consider Fit and Proportions
Oversized styles can add unnecessary bulk, especially in group photos or mid-length shots. Go for fitted (not tight) clothing that highlights your shape without restricting movement.
If you love oversized tops, balance with more fitted bottomsโor vice versaโto keep proportions clean.
9. Avoid Distracting Prints
Busy patterns can pull attention away from your face and make cropping or repurposing images harder. Stick to:
Solid colours
Subtle patterns like small checks or fine stripes
Colour-blocking in brand-aligned tones
Avoid loud florals, logos, or high-contrast graphics.
10. Think Head-to-Toe
Even if shoes arenโt always in the frame, they affect how you feel and carry yourself. When your whole look is cohesive, it translates in your posture, energy, and overall presence.

Need styling help for Corporate Team photography?
If youโre preparing a group for team or company photos:
Stick to a loose colour palette. Think navy, cream, tan, and muted tones, or another neutral range that fits your brand.
Avoid everyone wearing the exact same thing. Instead, aim for complementary tones and styles with a consistent level of formality.
Encourage team members to avoid heavy prints, logos, or anything distracting.
Have a steamer, lint roller and backup accessories on hand on shoot day!
