Most women aren’t afraid of visibility...they’re afraid of being seen as themselves.
In my 20's, on stage, I could be anyone.... loud, bold, outrageous, completely uninhibited. It felt safe because I had permission to step into a character.
But if you asked me back then to give a speech at a wedding or stand on stage as myself… I’d find any excuse to disappear.
Being “Rebecca” on stage felt far riskier than playing a role.
When I later began photographing actors, I realised I wasn’t alone.
Ask them to play a character? Effortless.
Ask them to simply be themselves? Instant tension.
And that’s when it clicked (pun intended) ;)
Being yourself in the public arena is a skill.
A trainable one.
A leadership one.
